Ohio Gov. John Kasich made the case to a still-undecided New Hampshire voter that she should vote for him instead of the two other candidates she’s considering supporting – the Democrats.
The self-identified undecided voter said at a Monday town hall she was still choosing between supporting Kasich, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
“Isn’t that interesting,” Kasich cut in, with a laugh. “How do I get you over?”
“So my question is: Why should I vote for you in the Democratic primary tomorrow?” the woman asked.
Kasich didn’t correct the voter, but joked, “I am for Bernie being president of Ben & Jerry’s. As a result of that, I want them to give us free ice cream. I mean, if we can get free everything, why not free ice?”
He went on to say because Sanders identifies as a Democratic socialist, “it’s just not gonna happen.”
About Clinton, Kasich said “we can’t run America with pollsters” and called her “brittle.”
“I’m the right porridge, one of them’s too hot, the other one’s too cold, but I got the right temperature,” he told the crowd.
After finishing, Kasich asked the voter if he’d won her over, and she responded, “I’ll let you know tomorrow night.”
The governor asked her to call and let him know which way she voted, before reconsidering: “If you don’t vote for me…I might cry.”
