Prospective Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush voiced his support Wednesday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming speech to Congress on the international nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Bush made the comments during a foreign policy-focused event at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, according to MSNBC.
“I don’t blame him for wanting to share his views,” Bush said of Netanyahu. “In fact, I think it will be important for the American people to get the perspective of our closest ally in the region.”
The speech, which House Speaker John Boehner invited Netanyahu to make without consulting the White House, has spurred partisan divides, as TPM has documented. President Obama won’t meet with the prime minister during his visit to Washington, D.C., and some congressional Democrats have said that they will skip the speech.
Republicans, meanwhile, have criticized the Democratic response and some conservative groups have pledged to single out any members who boycott the speech.
