The Twitter account of Newsweek magazine was hacked on Tuesday by a group claiming to support the Islamic State terror group.
At about 10:15 a.m. ET, Newsweek’s account tweeted “Bloody Valentine’s Day #MichelleObama! We’re watching you, you girls and your husband! #CyberCaliphate.”
With a new Islamic State-themed profile picture, the account continued to tweet out purportedly leaked documents and a message condemning U.S. foreign policy, threatening “infidels,” and praising “brothers who are liberating the Emirate of Afghanistan.”
The perpetrators appear to be the same group that hacked the Twitter accounts of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the New York Post, and United Press International in January.
Newsweek deleted the tweets by about 11:15 a.m., while its account sported a default Twitter egg avatar.
