FILE - In this Jan. 24, 2014 file photo, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is seen at the RNC winter meeting in Washington. Preibus acknowledges the GOP is “a tale of two parties,” in an interview with the Associated Press. “We’ve got a midterm party that doesn’t lose, and a presidential party that’s having a hard time winning,” he said. But he declined to blame the split on policy, be it immigration or budget gridlock that House Republicans have helped bring about. Instead, he said the party has largely conceded minority and younger voters by not engaging them directly in their communities. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh, File) MORE LESS

Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus had a message for former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg as he eyes an independent run for the White House: bring it on. It will help the GOP.

Priebus said that “I think it would be a blessing, but he’s not going to do it.”

Bloomberg had said that if the presidential race comes down to Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) or Donald Trump, he may run.

Priebus said that if Bloomberg jumped into the race that New York would be “in play. Pennsylvania will be in play, Connecticut might be in play.”

“I think that he would actually help the Republicans if he was on the ballot,” Prieubs said.
