White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow contradicted President Trump on Thursday evening, suggesting the White House may propose some form of middle class tax cuts while Trump is campaigning for the 2020 reelection.
During an interview with Fox Business Network, Kudlow tried to clean up Trump’s remarks on Wednesday, when he said tax-cuts weren’t being considered.
“You very may well see a new rollout of additional, additional middle-class tax relief and small-business tax relief,” he said. “There is nothing in the near term, that’s what the President was getting at. We believe the economy is quite healthy, we expect some relief on short-term interest rates coming up from the Fed and so forth. But longer run, why not?”
The White House has waffled its message on whether it intends to put forward payroll tax cuts in order to curb a possible recession.
