Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed a “heartbeat” abortion bill into law Tuesday, banning abortions six weeks after conception when a fetal heartbeat can first be detected.
“Georgia is a state that values life,” Kemp said before signing, per Fox News. “We stand up for those who are unable to speak for themselves.”
Georgia is just the latest in a string of states to push the extreme abortion legislation, with advocates banking on the conservative makeup of the Supreme Court to ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade should their laws be challenged all the way up to the highest court.
