Out of all the reasons to decry Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) inflammatory and conspiracy-ridden remarks, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is instead shaking in his boots over … taking disciplinary action against Greene supposedly setting up a slippery slope for “cancel culture”?
Asked during an interview on Fox News on Wednesday about Republican strategist and pundit Karl Rove blasting Greene for espousing a slew of bogus conspiracy theories and calling for the QAnon-sympathizing lawmaker to be expelled from Congress, Jordan appeared to suggest that it’s time to move on from holding Greene accountable for her troubling actions before — gasp! — other lawmakers find themselves in the same boat.
Jordan, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the 11th hour of former President Trump’s presidency, painted himself as an advocate for democracy after egging on Trump’s election fraud falsehoods for months.
“No one is condoning the remarks she has made. I’ve not heard any Republican say that is appropriate,” Jordan said. “That is not the issue. The issue is once this starts, tell me where it ends? Who is next? Think of the cancel culture.”
Jordan recounted his House floor speech last month when he whined about Democrats “canceling” Trump for his incitement of the deadly Capitol insurrection last month as he tried to stir up fear-mongering among his Republican colleagues after the House voted to impeach Trump for the second time.
“I told the Republicans if you go down this road attacking people with free-speech rights, where does it end?” Jordan said. “It will not stop with Republicans, but will go to all of us.”
Jordan oddly threw Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) into the mix by erroneously making a connection between Trump’s second impeachment to the San Francisco Board of Education’s vote to remove the California senator’s name from the elementary school named after her late last month.
The San Francisco School Names Advisory Committee, a panel established in 2018 to review school names in the aftermath of the deadly clash at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville the year before, took the removal of Feinstein’s name from the elementary school into consideration almost two months before the Capitol riots. Feinstein came under fire for replacing a vandalized Confederate flag that was part of a long-standing flag display in front of City Hall during her time as a mayor in 1984.
Jordan doubled down on his argument that “every single American is at risk” of losing their First Amendment rights.
“If this goes forward, that is one more blow to the First Amendment. That should scare every single American,” Jordan said. “This is wrong and you guys know it is wrong and the whole country knows it is wrong. That is why we should not stand for it.”
Jordan’s latest Trumpian gambit came hours after Greene appeared unfazed by her meeting with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as she faces mounting calls for her expulsion from Congress.
McCarthy, who finally met with Greene after days of inaction, released a statement Wednesday afternoon indicating that he has no plans to take disciplinary action against Greene by attacking Democrats instead.
