Larry Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, implied Sunday that multiple women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment several years ago could be lying about their allegations, a byproduct of what he called a “toxic” environment in national politics.

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering Cain to serve on the Federal Reserve Board, along with conservative economic pundit Stephen Moore. Cain suspended his 2012 campaign for the Republican nomination for President after multiple women accused him of sexual harassment.

In an interview with Kudlow Sunday, CNN’s Jake Tapper played a recording of Sharon Bialek saying in November 2011 that Cain “put his hand on my leg, under my skirt, and reached for my genitals.”

“He also grabbed my head and brought it towards my crotch,” Bialek said, adding later that Cain told her: “You want a job, right?”

Kudlow was unfazed: “There’s big disputes here, Mr. Cain disagrees with this point of view,” he said, noting that the White House was “going through a vetting process.”

Tapper stopped him: “It’s four women, it’s not just one.”

Kudlow waved his hand: “Lord knows, in this town, you know– I come here to work in the White House once every 35 years. It’s very toxic here. More than I’ve ever seen.”

But nobody had made similar allegations against Kudlow or himself, Tapper said.

“That is true,” Kudlow said. “And you and I, we’re on the road to heaven. There’s no question about that.”

Tapper pressed for an actual answer.

“I think this stuff– We’ve seen, whether it’s Supreme Court justices or many other things, we’ve seen a lot of charges here,” Kudlow said. “They don’t necessarily pan out.”
