Iranian President Hassan Rouhani dragged President Trump and what he described as a “mentally crippled” White House for its recent talks of sanctioning Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Washington Post reported.

Rouhani also used the “r-word” to describe the White House, according to the Associated Press.

“You call for negotiations. If you are telling the truth, why are you simultaneously seeking to sanction our foreign minister?” Rouhani said, describing President Trump as “outrageous and idiotic.”

Other Iranian officials also lashed out at Trump for it’s “useless sanctioning” of Zarif and the head of Iran’s nuclear negotiations, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry Abbas Mousavi said, according to the Post.

The White House announced new sanctions Monday in response to Iran’s attack on a U.S. Navy surveillance drone flying over the Strait of Hormuz last week. Trump has said he is open to negotiations with Iran as tensions between the two countries heighten. Last week Trump called off an airstrike against Iran in the 11th hour because he didn’t think the casualty count was proportionate to their offense.

Trump responded to Rouhani’s comments on Twitter Tuesday, issuing a warning that any “attack” would be “met with great and overwhelming force.”
