Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) announced on Monday that an article of impeachment against President Trump for “incitement of insurrection” has been formally introduced in the House.
The four-page impeachment bill from Reps. Lieu, David Cicilline (D-RI), Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said Trump “gravely endangered the security” of the country and its governmental institutions. They cited the President’s baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud as well as Trump’s remarks during a rally hours before the Capitol siege when he encouraged thousands of supporters to “fight like hell” before they breached the Capitol building.
The House Democrats added that Trump threatened “the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power” and “betrayed” trust.
“He will remain a threat to national security, democracy, and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office,” the House Democrats wrote.
