A hacker vandalized President Donald Trump’s campaign website on Tuesday evening with a message attacking the President.
“This site was seized,” the hacker wrote at the top of the website’s “Events” page.
“[T]he world has had enough of the fake-news spreaded [sic] daily by president donald j trump. [I]t is time to allow the world to know truth,” they added.
The hacker demanded cryptocurrency in exchange for data they claimed to have that proved Trump’s “criminal involvment [sic] and cooperation with foreign actors manipulating the 2020 elections,” along with alleged evidence that the Trump administration was “involved in the origin of” COVID-19.
The website was restored with the post removed after being taken offline temporarily.
The Trump campaign is “working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the attack,” campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh said in a statement. “There was no exposure to sensitive data because none of it is actually stored on the site.”
