First lady Melania Trump announced on Tuesday that White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who had never held an on-camera press briefing, will be leaving her post to become Melania Trump’s chief of staff.
“I am excited to welcome Stephanie back to the team in this new role,” the first lady said in a press release. “She has been a mainstay and true leader in the Administration from even before day one, and I know she will excel as Chief of Staff.”
“I continue to be honored to serve both the President and First Lady in the Administration,” said Grisham in the release.
The White House official did not hold a single press briefing during her tenure after she assumed office on July 1 last year, though she did make several appearances on Fox News.
Newly appointed White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has appointed Kayleigh McEnany, a spokesperson for President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, to be the new press secretary, according to the New York Times.
