Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-SC) continued hustling Fox News viewers for money on Monday night, urging them to donate to GOP campaigns in Georgia to avoid what he called a “trifecta from hell.”
The hellish trifecta referred to the Democratic leadership of President-elect Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY), Graham told former GOP congressman and Fox News contributor Trey Gowdy, standing in for Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday. The South Carolina lawmaker said that the Georgia runoffs for two Senate seats, which are set to determine which party holds majority in the Senate, would also determine whether his hopes of becoming the Senate Budget Committee’s chair next year are dashed or brought to fruition.
“I may not be your cup of tea out there,” Graham said.
“But let me tell you this, I’m a hell of a lot better than Bernie Sanders when it comes to your money,” he added, suggesting that a win by Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in both Georgia races would lead to budget committee chairmanship by “an avowed socialist” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Graham has become known for pleading for cash on the conservative news network by playing to extremes. He suggested on Monday that if Republicans were defeated in the Peach State’s Jan. 5 runoffs, “a nightmare for conservatism” would ensue.
“It’s the end of checks and balances,” he said. “It would fundamentally change the country as we know it. The fate of the Republic really lies in the hands of our friends in Georgia. So, I’m worried as we speak tonight.”
Begging for support from colleagues and network viewers, Graham said that Republicans were being “outspent” in Georgia already and that he and his campaign had donated $1 million to both Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler’s reelection bids, as well as another $1 million to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
“I just don’t believe the people in Georgia are going to allow this country to be turned into a socialist nation,” he said. “That’s really what’s on the ballot for these Senate seats.”
