Two female Republican senators, Sens. Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Susan Collins (R-ME), have joined the limp GOP effort to gag President Donald Trump on the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

McSally, who has more skin in the game than most, as she hails from McCain’s state where he is still quite popular, told Politico that she spoke to the President directly.

“There is a lot of disrespect going on out there all the way around,” she said on Thursday. “I did talk to the President yesterday. I wanted to make sure he understood how I felt about Sen. McCain and how Arizona felt about Sen. John McCain. And he heard me.”

Trump has since kept up his steady stream of insults.

Collins sent her message to Trump through the New York Times.

“I just don’t understand why the President keeps returning to his dislike of John McCain and criticizing him, particularly now that he is no longer alive,” she said. “The President should refrain from any further criticism of John McCain, an American hero who served his country well.”

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) have also expressed their displeasure with Trump’s disparagement.

None of that took the wind out of Trump’s sails though, and he continued to batter the senator’s memory during his interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo aired Friday morning.

“I don’t talk about about it, people ask me the question, I didn’t bring this up,” he said before continuing to trash McCain.
