Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) admitted on Thursday that he “would like to see” President Trump’s taxes, just a day after the House Ways and Means Committee requested six years worth of the President’s tax returns from the IRS.

During an interview with CNN, Kennedy said that while he takes Trump “at his word” regarding his rationale for not releasing the documents, he would still “like” to look at them.

“Yeah, I would like to. But I think he has, at least if you take the President at his word, a legitimate reason for not turning them over, he says he’s in the middle of an audit,” he said. “I take him at his word, and I respect that. I think all things being equal, I would like to see the President’s taxes, I wouldn’t be adverse to turning over my taxes, I don’t have anything to hide.”

He added it’s within the “purview” of the chair of the Ways and Means Committee to request the tax returns, but said he thinks he has an “ulterior motive.”
