Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) on Wednesday became the first Democratic presidential candidate to release her 2018 tax return.
“[A]s we fight to defeat Donald Trump, we need honesty, transparency and accountability more than ever,” read a press release on Gillibrand’s website, above links to her returns from 2007 through 2018. “That’s why Kirsten has posted her tax returns from the last 12 years here for all to see. And she’s calling on every candidate in the Democratic field to follow her lead and release theirs, too.”
No Democratic presidential candidate has said they’ll follow President Donald Trump’s example and refuse to release their returns; Trump is the first President since Richard Nixon not to have released his returns (or summaries, in Gerald Ford’s case).
The New York Times flagged that, as a senator, Gillibrand has released her tax returns since 2012, when she posted returns going back to 2007. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has posted returns going back to 2008, though she has not shared her 2018 return yet.
