White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said today he doesn’t “think it’s a stretch to say we don’t agree with Senator Schumer,” in response to Schumer’s remark that the White House policy on pursuing negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians is “counter-productive.”
Schumer (D-NY) criticized the White House yesterday for not putting more pressure on the Palestinians to negotiate with Israel.
In today’s gaggle, Gibbs disagreed with Schumer’s assessment.
Obama, Gibbs said, has an “unwavering commitment to the security of Israel and the Israeli people. We have said that from the beginning of this administration.”
He added that White House is also still working with the U.N. Security Council on Iranian nuke sanctions.
