The FBI has discovered that adherents of the bogus “QAnon” conspiracy theory, which alleges that President Donald Trump is secretly fighting a cabal of pedophiles in elite circles, have discussed ways to potentially disguise themselves as some of the National Guard troops that have been assigned to watch over President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20.
An FBI intelligence report obtained by the Washington Post warns law enforcement agencies that “QAnon members have discussed posing as National Guard soldiers, believing that it would be easy for them to infiltrate secure areas.”
According to the Post, the FBI briefing also documents National Guard troops’ accounts of unknown people monitoring their prep work in the area with photos and videos, some of which have been circulating online among the QAnon members who’ve discussed potential infiltration.
QAnon followers were among the violent pro-Trump mob that ransacked the Capitol at the President’s encouragement on January 6.
The Associated Press reported on Monday the FBI’s plans to vet all of the 25,000 National Guard troops for ties to extremism who’ve been deployed to monitor the inauguration.
