White House COVID-19 expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has largely been sidelined by the Trump administration, said on Thursday that he will be meeting with President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team later in the day to discuss how to move forward combating the pandemic.
“Today will be the first day where there will be substantive discussions about the transition between me and the Biden team,” Fauci said during CBS News’ “The Takeout” podcast.
“I’m very pleased that today we’re having the first discussion about a number of things, vaccinations and things like that,” he added.
The health official also said he has met with Ron Klain, Biden’s incoming chief of staff, several times.
Fauci had highlighted the importance of a smooth transition between the current and incoming administrations amid the pandemic back when President Donald Trump was blocking the President-elect’s transition team from accessing the administration’s resources on COVID-19 and plans to distribute the vaccine for the virus.
