One day after the release of the redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) called for impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
Mueller put the next step in the hands of Congress: “Congress has authority to prohibit a President’s corrupt use of his authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice.” The correct process for exercising that authority is impeachment.

Warren is one of the most prominent members of her party to support impeachment proceedings in the wake of Mueller’s report. Her statement will also put more pressure on other Democrats competing in the 2020 presidential primary to take a stance on whether the details in Mueller’s report should prompt impeachment proceedings.
Democratic leaders have shied away from calling for impeachment following the redacted report’s release, with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) saying impeachment would not be “worthwhile.” House Oversight Committee Chair Elijah Cummings (D-MD) came close to supporting impeachment on Friday, but said that Congress needs to examine the report and the Mueller investigation more closely before making a decision.
