Former President Donald Trump’s eldest son is boasting about his father’s unwillingness to accept defeat in an election which ultimately fomented an insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.
Less than two months after his father provoked the deadly siege, Donald Trump Jr. said on Thursday that the former president’s efforts have shown that defeated candidates don’t have to “lose gracefully.”
During a Fox News interview on Thursday, Don Jr. described what he called an absence of “natural push-back,” among apparently spineless Republicans who in fact spent months (with few exceptions) defending his father’s false claims and baseless conspiracies about a stolen election that culminated in violence.
“The Republicans aren’t willing to do it. They’ve shown that over the decades. They’d just rather lose gracefully, I guess,” the younger Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
“Donald Trump has shown that you don’t have to do that,” he added.

Now that his father has been acquitted in the Senate impeachment trial over accusations that he had incited the violent riot on Jan. 6 that left five people dead, Don Jr. is emboldened to show pride for his father’s antidemocratic efforts.
“You can actually push back,” Don Jr., said, adding that it would’t be “an easy fight.”
Trump’s eldest son laid out what he described as the “double standard” faced by Republicans who have to overcome additional hurdles amid a media and big tech landscape who he suggested are “doing whatever they can to destroy the Republican party.”
“We don’t have a level playing field,” he said, appearing to justify the recent history of antidemocratic actions taken by Trump and his allies.
“Until we have more people that willing to step up and tell the truth and speak to the American people, we’re a little bit at a loss and it’s ridiculous,” Don Jr. added.
The former president is slotted to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Sunday where he is expected to bash Biden’s immigration policy and discuss the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement.
Commenting on the forthcoming address from the former president, who has been meeting with political advisers and various loyalists in Congress in recent weeks, the ex-president’s son asserted that he believes the continued influence of his father goes without question.
“If you’re reading the room and you’re intelligent, you realize that Donald Trump is still the future of the Republican Party,” he said.
