Dominion Voting Systems filed a massive defamation lawsuit against Fox News on Friday morning for boosting ex-President Donald Trump’s evidence-free accusations that their ballot counting tech was fraudulent in the 2020 election.
In the 443-page suit, Dominion’s attorneys accuse Fox of giving “life to a manufactured storyline about election fraud that cast a then-little-known voting machine company called Dominion as the villain.”
“Fox took a small flame and turned it into a forest fire,” the lawsuit says. “As the dominant media company among those viewers dissatisfied with the election results, Fox gave these fictions a prominence they otherwise would never have achieved.”
Dominion’s employees have been repeatedly harassed and received death threats while the business itself has “suffered enormous and irreparable economic harm” as a result of Fox’s “orchestrated defamatory campaign,” the suit alleges.
As such, Dominion is demanding at least $1.6 billion in damages.
“FOX News Media is proud of our 2020 election coverage, which stands in the highest tradition of American journalism, and will vigorously defend against this baseless lawsuit in court,” the network said in a statement.
The most recent lawsuit is not the first time the voting technologies company has made efforts to take Trumpworld figures to task: Dominion Voting Systems also previously slapped Trump conspiracy peddler and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell with a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit for bogus claims of widespread election fraud.
At that time, the company alleged that the Trump loyalist and pillow salesman had been a profiteer of election fraud falsehoods while working to destroy the company’s reputation and endangering the safety of its employees.
In January, lawyers on behalf of the voting machine company also issued a series of other defamation lawsuits for the same sum, first against pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell, who spent weeks reinforcing the former president’s grievances with a suspicious stew of conspiracy theories that accused Dominion of being at the center of a voter fraud scheme to steal Donald Trump’s second term.
Later that month, Dominion lawyers also lodged a suit against Rudy Giuliani for what it described as a months-long “Big Lie” about the company. Dominion lawyers said in a 100-page lawsuit, which Giuliani repeatedly tried to dodge, that the Trump lawyer had knowingly and maliciously spread false information about Dominion for months for his own political and financial ends.
