The Democratic National Committee extracted a promise from CNN that Sarah Isgur, the network’s new hire who previously worked as Jeff Sessions’ primary spokeswoman, would not work on Democratic primary debates in any way, The Daily Beast reported.
DNC officials were perplexed by the hire, given Isgur’s alleged involvement in a right wing conspiracy theory about the murder of former DNC staffer Seth Rich.
CNN hired Isgur, who has no journalism background, as a political editor who will coordinate coverage of the 2020 campaigns. Journalists both inside and outside CNN were appalled by the hire, citing her lack of experience and political ties.
DNC officials were equally confused by CNN’s decision. One source on the inside said officials were in “disbelief.” A senior aide told The Daily Beast that the talks between CNN and the DNC about how the hire “impacts 2020” coverage are ongoing.
