Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) announced on Wednesday night that he would be introducing a resolution to have Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) expelled from the House following revelations that the Republican had endorsed Facebook comments calling for violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and former President Barack Obama.
“Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell,” the Democrat said in a statement.
He asserted that his GOP colleague “represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government.”
Taylor Greene’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
On Tuesday, CNN unearthed several Facebook posts from 2018 and 2019 showing that the Republican had “liked” a comment that said “a bullet to the head would be quicker” to remove Pelosi.
When someone commented on a different post of hers asking if “we get to hang” Pelosi and Obama, Taylor Greene responded “Stage is being set.”
“Players are being put in place. We must be patient,” she wrote. “This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”
After CNN reported on the posts, the Republican lawmaker accused the outlet of “writing yet another hit piece” against her.
“Over the years, I’ve had teams of people manage my pages,” she tweeted. “Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared. Some did not represent my views. Especially the ones that CNN is about to spread across the internet.”
CNN’s report came after MediaMatters flagged other Facebook posts revealing the extent of Taylor Greene’s adherence to far-right conspiracy theories, including one alleging that Hillary Clinton had secretly filleted a child’s face.
Prior to joining Congress, Taylor Greene was filmed harassing Parkland school shooting surviver David Hogg on the street as she ranted about the extremist conspiracy theory that the shooting was a “false flag” operation.

Amid all the controversy surrounding her inflammatory remarks, the congresswoman has portrayed herself as a victim of left-wing censorship, at one point wearing a mask emblazoned with “CENSORED” as she spoke on the House floor.
However, her cries for unrestrained free speech were thrown into question on Wednesday night after she had local reporters escorted out of her town hall, where she had banned the media from asking any questions or speaking to the attendees.
