Op-ed oops!

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced he’s reversed course and will vote against a resolution disapproving of President Trump’s emergency declaration on the southern border, just weeks after penning an op-ed promising to buck Trump on the bill.

“I do not intend to vote for the resolution of disapproval,” he said on the Senate floor Thursday afternoon, shortly before the vote.

Tillis said his op-ed allowed him to “engage in a discussion with some of my colleagues here and with the White House that have been very, very productive,” and predicted Trump “is prepared to transfer power back” to Congress — just not yet.

Tillis is up for reelection in 2020 in a slightly GOP-leaning state, and faces a potentially tough fight in the general election. But since he came out against Trump there has been building buzz of a potential primary challenge against him. That challenge seems to have scared him into reversing course to continue his longstanding embrace of the president.
