Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) thinks former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is a “total idiot” for considering an independent bid for president in 2020.
“You got this idiot Schultz running — maybe,” Brown told an Iowa voter Friday after a farmers’ roundtable, according to CNN. “He’s an idiot. I mean, he’s a total idiot.”

Schultz’s bumpy trial run as a “centrist independent” has consisted of sitting for wall-to-wall cable news interviews, where he’s spoken out against raising taxes on billionaires and universal healthcare. So far, Schultz has appeared to put off Democrats and Republicans alike, with moderates urging him not to run a “spoiler” independent campaign.
Brown has yet to announce whether he’ll run as a Democratic candidate, but is making stops in the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina as part of his “Dignity of Work” tour.
The Ohio senator’s crack at Schultz came in response to a question about whether he would accept money from super PACs if he does decide to run.
“Probably not, but I haven’t decided yet,” Brown said, according to CNN.
