Rick Tyler, Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) ex-communications director, on Friday morning panned his former boss’s decision to flee to the beaches of Mexico as Texas suffers a major natural disaster in the form of a snowstorm that’s caused power outages across the state.

“In the very sophisticated world of political communication this is what you call a ‘dumbass move. There’s really no excuse for it,” Tyler said during an appearance on “Morning Joe.”

The former aide also blasted Cruz’s attempt to blame his daughters for the debacle by claiming they had asked to go on the trip and that he was simply being a “good dad” by flying them down to Mexico.

Tyler called the excuse a “really horrendous move.”

“And I promise you they didn’t ask to go to Cancún. This was Senator Ted Cruz’s move,” he added. “And he comes back and suddenly he wants to have a reset and put it all back together. This is gross, negligent, reckless incompetence.”
