Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was swiftly dragged on Sunday after he complained about critics of his and other Republican colleagues’ intent to challenge President-elect Joe Biden’s victory during the Jan. 6 congressional session that will certify Biden’s Electoral College win.
Appearing on Fox News on Sunday, Cruz griped that critics of the charge he’s leading to rile up Republicans to challenge the election results should “tone down the rhetoric” and “calm down.”
“This is already a volatile situation,” Cruz said. “It’s like a tinderbox and throwing lit matches into it.”
Cruz, who is actively working to bolster President Trump’s attempts at delegitimizing the election process, lamented that Democrats supposedly want him to be “arrested and tried for sedition and treason.”
“That’s not helpful at a time when we’re pitted against each other,” Cruz said. “Just relax, and let’s do our jobs. We have a responsibility to follow the law.”
Twitter users swiftly called out Cruz, who worked as a constitutional lawyer before entering office, for his misguided complaint:
Cruz is educated enough in the law to avoid a technical violation of the statute-committing an actual crime. That doesn’t make his conduct any less seditious, reprehensible, or damaging to our country. & he knows this as well. He’s only interested in power & no shame getting it. https://t.co/rxeBa4O9Ok

"I’ve had multiple Democrats urging that I should be arrested and tried for the crimes of sedition and treason. Now look, that’s not helpful," Cruz says.
Funny, I don't recall a similar response by Cruz to Trump's frequent accusations that his opponents had committed "treason." https://t.co/scvIwy7dCC

It’s his right as a Canadian-American to overthrow a democratically elected president to install Donald Trump as Leader for a Long Time. https://t.co/Xp0lnqUi0V

Let's not let things get out of hand where this backfires on me as spectacularly as embracing Trump during the primary because I thought he'd flame out and I'd get all his voters. https://t.co/SrE9OH5a8k
