Last night, Stephen Colbert talked a little bit about Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who left her radio show after coming under fire for making racially insensitive remarks and repeatedly using the N-word during a broadcast. “Schlessinger,” Colbert pointed out, “is definitely one of the top conservative ‘Lauras.’ There’s Laura Bush, Laura Ingraham, and Laura Rove — Karl Rove’s family values drag persona.”
“Trust me,” he said, “after an auditorium full of high school kids sees Laura Rove perform, they will not want to have sex before marriage. Or after a meal.”
Colbert continued that Schlessinger has been “vilified” for her remarks, which included pointing out that people really need to have a sense of humor when it comes to comments about race.
Colbert agreed: “That’s why Thomas Jefferson didn’t marry Sally Hemmings. She never laughed at his slave jokes.”
