Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) made a rather surprising claim on MSNBC today, suggesting that the Obama Administration’s intelligence on the Pakistani Taliban having been behind the failed Times Square bombing was like the Bush Administration’s bogus intel on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Bond also claimed that Attorney General Eric Holder has refused to give Bond’s intelligence committee the information it requests, and that Holder “has executed a hostile takeover of the intelligence community.”
Bond claimed that he’s been trying to get information for a week, but keeps getting denials and the runaround. “We’ve been shut out,” he said.
As for the weapons of mass destruction, Bond said this of the evidence that the Pakistani Taliban was involved in the failed Times Square attack.
You remember what happened when the Bush Administration went to war in Iraq saying there were weapons of mass destruction. Well, the intelligence underlying it was not good. Here the intelligence underlying it still has lots of questions that need to be answered. They may show the link, but they haven not in my view showed the link yet.
