A rare calm has settled upon the House Intelligence Committee, as a bipartisan desire to see special counsel Robert Mueller’s findings has at least temporarily brought together the two parties.
According to a Politico report, Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX), who once clamored for chairman Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) resignation, is giving him much of the credit.
“Let’s keep looking through the front windshield and not reprise a fight that’s behind us,” Conaway said. “The committee for the last several weeks has operated old school, and that’s a credit to leadership — Adam Schiff’s leadership as well as Devin’s,” he added of ranking member Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA).
The two Californians teamed up on letters to the Justice Department, demanding the unredacted Mueller report and underlying intelligence. The DOJ ignored those requests, and Schiff fired off a subpoena to force the issue on Thursday.
“On this issue, we’ve had a confluence of interest,” Schiff told Politico. “How long that will persist, I don’t know. I hope it continues.”
