New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will announce his long-expected bid for presidency on Thursday, throwing his hat in a ring that’s already crammed with 22 other hats.
According to a Wednesday NBC News report, de Blasio will launch his campaign on Thursday morning before traveling to Iowa with his wife, Chirlane McCray.
Though the mayor’s announcement doesn’t come as a surprise, previous reactions to a potential de Blasio campaign have been tepid at best. A Quinnipiac poll showed that over 75% of New Yorkers think their mayor shouldn’t run, and many of de Blasio’s own former aides and friends apparently tried to convince him that a presidential campaign was a bad idea.
“Ugh,” one former aide groaned to the Atlantic about their ex-boss’s rumored campaign.
