Joe Biden is “absolutely convinced” that the military would remove President Trump from the White House if he refuses to leave after a reelection loss in November.
“This president is going to try to steal this election,” Biden said in an interview on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Wednesday night.
When asked if Biden had considered what would happen if he wins but Trump refuses to leave the White House, the Democratic presidential nominee said he had.
“I’’m absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” Biden said.
Biden’s comments reflect concerns that many Democrats have felt about potential foul play in November’s election. Questions about access to mail-in ballots, as well as how to safely conduct in-person voting at the polls on Election Day amid the coronavirus pandemic, have amplified concerns about how the November election will unfold.
The former vice president said that he feared Trump could try to obstruct the voting process to secure an unfair win, adding that a fair election his “single greatest concern.”
Biden’s interview with Noah also touched on the protests that have sprung up across the nation in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, whose death in police custody has spurred some demonstrators to call for police departments to be defunded.
“I don’t believe police should be defunded,” Biden said when pushed on the matter. “But I think the conditions should be placed upon them where departments are having to take significant reforms.”
