Former Vice President Joe Biden had been an official 2020 candidate for all of an hour Thursday before he began scooping up endorsements from a handful of prominent senators.

From Pennsylvania’s Sen. Bob Casey (D):

“In order to accomplish the urgent task of defeating President Trump, Democrats must win Pennsylvania,” he said in a statement. “Joe Biden can and will win Pennsylvania if he is the Democratic nominee for President.”

From Delaware’s Sen. Chris Coons (D):

“Joe is also better prepared than anyone to lead America on the world stage when our commitments to our allies and our values are being questioned like never before,” he said in a statement. “Joe knows what it means to strengthen our alliances, stare down our adversaries, and represent the best of America abroad.”

From Delaware’s other Senator, Tom Carper (D):

“Joe is not afraid of a fight and has shown that he has what it will take to win,” he said in a statement. “We need somebody who won’t just unite our party, by somebody who can unite our country. Joe has earned the respect of Democrats, Independents, and even many Republicans. In an increasingly polarized country, it’s Joe’s authenticity that continues to be well-received in red and blue states alike.”

From Alabama’s Sen. Doug Jones (D):

“The quality that makes Joe stand out is his ability to bring people together to find common ground while standing up for what he believes is right,” he said in a tweet. “We need to listen to each other & get things done for working people. Joe can, and will, do that.”
