Baltimore Mayor Bernard Young isn’t here to entertain President Trump’s attacks over the weekend against Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and his majority-black district, which includes the city.
When pressed on his response to Trump’s angry tweets, Young urged the President to stop tweeting on MSNBC Monday morning.
“My message to the President is, stop tweeting and send federal help and resources to the city of Baltimore,” Young said. “Not just to the city of Baltimore. To urban cities around the country, that are having problems with aging infrastructure, with crime, and grime, and reduction in resources from the federal government.”
Young then went into detail on the infrastructure problems plaguing Baltimore.
“We have an unfunded EPA mandate to fix our aging infrastructure, which causes us to raise water rates on our vulnerable, poor people in the city of Baltimore,” Young said. “Stop tweeting and send us the help that we need.”
Young said that Trump has yet to respond to the city’s issues with actual proposals for a federal solution.
“None. Not one. I have not heard from the President,” Young said. “Normally when a new mayor comes into office whether through a mayor resigning or whatever they get a letter from the President congratulating him and offering to meet with them and find out their priorities. I haven’t received anything and he is right down the road.”
