All members of the Baltimore City Council — except the one currently serving as acting mayor — wrote a letter to Mayor Catherine Pugh (D) Monday calling on her to resign over the growing scandal around her children’s book series.
According to a Monday Baltimore Sun report, the letter was just two sentences long.
“The entire membership of the Baltimore City Council believes that it is not in the best interest of the City of Baltimore for you to continue to serve as Mayor,” they wrote. “We urge you to tender your resignation, effective immediately.”
Pugh is currently on a leave of absence she says is related to a recent bout of pneumonia.
The scandals have rippled out from Pugh’s cutting deals with various companies and the University of Maryland medical system for her “Healthy Holly” books, many of which were never delivered or never completed. She also did not list those profits on her state ethics forms. The state prosecutor is now investigating the case.
