A membership to Prime, Prime Ad Free, or Inside will give you access to special features each day, including: exclusive posts from Josh Marshall and other editors, articles detailing how our reporters got stories, and explanations of why we chose to focus on covering the stories we did. The different membership plans vary in the perks they offer, but all members gain access to additional insight — what we think of as a “guidance layer” of the site — helping our readers to understand how TPM is approaching the massive amount of news that surfaces each day.
We think this is all good stuff. But: The key aspect of memberships is not the extra features — it’s that memberships are literally critical to keeping TPM going. It’s a rough time in the media industry. Many media companies, including several of TPM’s peers are facing serious financial hardship.
TPM has a leg up, however, because we aren’t entirely dependent on advertising, and we haven’t been for years. We have our membership program. Reader memberships cover more than half our operating budget. We hope to increase that in 2023, but we need your help.
So, if you want to support what we do, become a member.
Giving memberships allows readers who want to support TPM over and above the cost of our membership plans the opportunity to do so. It also helps us grow our membership community without creating an environment of haves and have-nots — allowing access to readers who couldn’t otherwise afford a membership fee.
Each Credit Membership purchased provides a Prime annual membership for a member of the community who might not otherwise be able to join. TPM takes 100 percent of the money from that purchase and commits it to salaries, benefits and our expanding muckraking and investigative reporting team. Learn More
Each F.I.N. (Future Is Now) Student Membership purchased provides a Prime annual membership for an enrolled student and more money for TPM’s Investigations Desk team. Learn More
Gift Memberships offer a way to give Prime memberships directly to friends and family members and help us grow TPM’s member community.
We understand not everyone can afford to be a member. But we also believe there’s a world in which all of our readers can be members, even if they don’t possess the financial means to do so. These free memberships have been provided by readers and will be awarded to qualified individuals as available.
