President Trump again made it clear that he’d like to reopen the economy as soon as possible during Wednesday’s White House coronavirus task force briefing.
After saying that it will be safe to reopen the country when we’re “on that down side of that slope,” Trump expressed his optimism once the economy is reopened.
“We can do it in phases, go to some areas where — you know, some areas are much less affected than others,” Trump said. “But it would be nice to be able to open with a big bang and open up our country, or certainly most of our country.”
Trump’s latest remarks echo how he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity the night before that he’d “love to open with a big bang, one beautiful country,” which he argued is “very possible.”
The President also said during Wednesday’s briefing that he believes the country is “ahead of schedule” in terms of combating the spread of COVID-19.
Although he didn’t provide a specific timeframe on when he’d like to reopen the economy, Trump said he thinks it “will be sooner rather than later.”
