President Trump is now going after the World Health Organization in response to its criticisms of the U.S. amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump kicked off Tuesday’s White House coronavirus task force briefing by saying that the U.S. will place a “very powerful hold” on sending funds to the World Health Organization.
“The WHO, that’s the World Health Organization, receives vast amounts of money from the United States,” Trump said. “And we pay for a majority, the biggest portion of their money, and they actually criticized and disagreed with my travel ban at the time I did it, and they were wrong.”
Trump went on to slam the WHO over various disagreements, accusing the organization of being “China-centric” and arguing that “they’ve been wrong about a lot of things.”
Trump then appeared to walk back his earlier remark when he said his administration is “just going to take a look” at halting funds to WHO.
When asked whether it’s time to freeze funding to the WHO during a pandemic, Trump responded “maybe not.”
“I’m not saying I’m going to do it, but we are going to look at it,” Trump said.
