President Biden met with House Democrats on Friday afternoon, a meeting from which progressives emerged claiming vindication. The “two-track” strategy — both bills pass, or neither do — was apparently back on track.
Biden, however, warned members that the price of the reconciliation bill would likely have to come down.
Now negotiations resume. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has finally offered an actual counterproposal, announcing Thursday that his top line for the expansive social benefits and climate package was $1.5 trillion.
