President Biden celebrated on Friday the passage of the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package at a ceremony in the Rose Garden.

He was joined by top Democratic lawmakers to herald the legislation, which provides a massive amount of funding for COVID vaccinations, public health, stimulus checks, state aid, and other anti-poverty measures.

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered remarks, saying to Biden that “you had faith that the American people, regardless of who they voted for, would support this plan simply because it would help.”

Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took a similar tack, saying that Democrats were “unified on behalf of the American people.”

Biden spent much of the speech describing how the law would help the middle and working classes, while also name-checking various members of Congress who helped get the bill across the finish line.

“Unions built the middle class,” the president added, saying that the stimulus bill would set the tone for his administration.
